Thrust ball bearing is of separable bearing with contact angle of 90°. It can take only axial load and has low limit speed.
1.Main structural type
(1)Single-direction thrust ball bearing 51000 This type of bearing can only support axial loads in one direction and limit the axial movement of the shaft and housing in one direction.
(2) Double- direction thrust ball bearing 52000 This type of bearing is able to withstand axial load in both directions and limit the axial movement of the shaft and housing in both directions.
2.Cage material
When the outer diameter D≤250mm, thrust ball bearings generally adopt steel plate (or strip) pressed cages. And when the outer diameter D>250mm, the solid cages are used.
3.Minimum axial load
If the applied axial load is too small and the bearing is not compacted in operation, the steel ball will generate slippage to destroy the normal operation state of bearing due to the force of inertia. Therefore, the bearing should be applied with certain axial load. The minimum value of axial load is calculated by Famin = A (n/1000) 2
In the formula: Famin minimum axial load(kN); A-Minimum load constant n Rotation rate
Minimum load constant A is listed in bearing dimension table. If the external axial load is too small, spring can be used to apply preload for the bearing.
4.Permissible inclined angle
In order to ensure vertical, the two supporting faces of thrust ball bearing must be parallel without any deviation. If the shaft centerline and housing supporting face are not guaranteed, the spherical seat washer and aligning washer could be used for compensation.

The main structural features and related parameter of double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearing
Double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearing is used with double-row cylindrical roller bearing to support double direction axial load. The bearing is composed of two shaft washer, one seat washer, one spacer, two rows of rolling elements and cage. The thickness of grinding spacer can adjust the clearance and preload of the bearing of which contact angle is 60°. The dominant outer diameter of bearing of this type is the same as that of its supporting double-row cylindrical roller bearing with the same bore diameter, but the outer diameter tolerance zone is below the zero line, and not used for taking radial load due to the clearance with the housing, therefore, the bearing is mainly used as thrust bearing.
BEM double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearing features with advantage of high precision, fine rigidity, low temperature, high speed, easy mounting and dismounting etc.
The bearing seat washer is set with lubrication groove and the centre has lubrication hole for facilitating the effective lubrication.
2344 and 2347 bearing series structural form is demonstrated as the picture below. 2344 bearing series should be mounted at one end of cylindrical roller bearings with small diameter (taper), while 2347 bearing series should be installed one the side of big diameter with taper. Grease lubrication
The running of double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearing could achieve the lubrication purpose. Since the amount of lubricant required is larger than the adjacent cylindrical roller bearing, it should be noticed that the oil input can not flow into the cylindrical roller bearing completely in designing and angular contact thrust ball bearing is assured of the enough lubricant of double-direction.
The preload and rigidity of bearing
The spacer sleeve of double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearing between two shaft washers can form clearance with just 1 thickness of grinding spacer sleeve, guaranteeing proper axial preload after the bearing installment. The preload shouldn’t be two heavy to prevent the larger preload caused by twisting grinding spacer sleeve.
Angular contact thrust ball bearing for ball screw
The angular contact thrust ball bearing is specially designed for ball screw supporting device, featuring with high precision, high speed, high axial rigidity, low friction, long service life and good performance of high and low speed switching. The dimension series include 7602, 7603 and BSB (non-standard) with inner diameter range from 12mm to 130mm.
BEM ball screw bearing, the single-direction angular contact thrust ball bearings with contact angle of 60°, can sustain relative heavy axial load in the single direction while supporting certain radial load at the same time. The bearing is usually used in pairs with the configuration is the same as angular contact ball bearing. The preload value is seen in “bearing dimension table” without marked in the code.

Angular contact thrust ball bearings for ball screw: The requirement of ball screw for the bearing is the same respect with the requirement of drive shaft for the bearing, i.e. it should be assured of enough precision and speed, while the difference is that since ball screw bearing mainly take axial load, the requirement of axial precision and rigidity is relative high. The feed system is need of flexible movement, and responsive for small displacement (tiny angle of ball screw). Therefore, the friction torque should be as low as possible.
Currently, angular contact thrust ball bearings with contact angle of 60° is most used for ball screw bearings, followed by needle and thrust roller bearings. The latter is mainly used for high precision large and heavy machine tools.
Grease lubrication
Ball screw angular contact thrust ball bearings Bearing of this type adopt grease lubrication, and the grease filling amount is seen in “bearing dimension table”. The related operation is based on the operation of angular contact ball bearing.
The preload and rigidity of bearing

The speed limit of bearing
Ball screw angular contact thrust ball bearing applies the permissible speed for grease is shown in the sample of bearing dimension table, which is suitable for face-to-face or back-to-back arrangement. Its speed limit will be reduced in other bearing configurations.
